Services for Clients

Each year it is estimated that more than 2 million elderly Americans fall victim to physical, emotional, and financial forms of abuse and neglect. Nursing home patients, assisted living facility residents and elders receiving in-home care can all become victims. Sadly, many of these cases are perpetrated by family members or trusted in-home caregivers. While some cases of abuse are the result of overwhelming stress on the caregiver, many cases involve the outright theft of the elder's assets and belongings.

Financial exploitation is the illegal or improper use of an elder's or dependant adult's resources for profit or gain. This is often accompanied by physical or emotional abuse meant to coerce the victim into cooperating with the abuser. Examples of this can be an in-home caregiver convincing the elder to sell their car to the caregiver's relative at one third the "blue book" value. A relative or caregiver may manipulate the elder into providing them with an ATM card or charge card they use to make large purchases for themselves.
